How internet voting works
Using our easy-to-use Election Manager, you create an election specifying the dates and times. You define the ballots and upload a list of eligible voters. Simply Voting will automatically generate passwords for each voter. Once the ballots open, you send out a mass email using our Email Blast feature containing passwords and direct voting links to each eligible voter. Alternatively, instead of using generated passwords, we will integrate with your organization’s existing authentication method.
Voters arrive at your branded voting website and are authenticated. The voter will be presented with a list of any ongoing elections. If the voter hasn’t yet voted, they may click on the election and a tamper-proof electronic ballot will appear. When they submit a ballot, the results are encrypted and kept anonymous. The voter is issued a receipt and is now blocked from voting for this election again. As voting proceeds you may send out reminder emails and monitor mid-election turnout.
Once voting has ended the results are immediately tabulated. You can view the results in the Election Manager along with various reports on voting activity before publishing them. Once published, the results are made available to the public on your voting website and anyone will be able to verify the results by downloading a file containing votes and receipt codes.

Can I run a test ballot?
Yes, and we highly recommend it! Elections with 10 eligible voters or less are always free.
How long does voting stay open?
Elections can be open for hours or months, but many customers choose a few weeks. One to two weeks gives plenty of time for everyone to vote.
Do voters need to install an app?
Nope! Simply Voting is a web-based application that works with all modern browsers such as Chrome, Safari, or Firefox. You can manage elections and voters will access their ballots on their smartphone, computer, or tablet.
What is the capacity of the internet voting system?
Simply Voting is designed to handle multi-million-voter elections and is built on an extremely scalable enterprise cloud infrastructure. We have already conducted elections with over 10,000 simultaneous voters and over 1,000,000 total votes cast using simulated human traffic from our load testing partner, LoadForge. Expanding (and reducing) capacity is as simple as activating (or deactivating) additional virtual server “nodes” on the cloud. As a matter of policy, Simply Voting always maintains enough capacity to handle all eligible voters voting at once. This over-allocation of resources ensures our voting system is always running at peak performance, even if there is an unexpected spike in voter activity.
What do I need to run an internet voting event?
This will vary based on the requirements of your vote, but in general:
- Your list of eligible voters in spreadsheet format typically including each voter’s name, email address, and unique identifier.
- A list of all positions or items to be voted on, the corresponding selections a voter may make, as well as the voting rules (ex., select up to 4, no abstain, etc). If you are still unclear on what this entails, it may be useful to imagine what information would be needed for crafting a paper ballot.
- Any other wording or content you wish to be included on the ballot (ex., candidate photos and/or biographies, links to additional documentation for voters to review, etc.)
