About the role:
We are currently looking for a Senior Bookkeeper (Contract) to join our team on a fixed term from Dec 1st, 2024 to August 31st, 2025 as a maternity leave replacement.
This position is optionally an 80% ‘work from home’ opportunity with 37.5 hours a week, and offers the following benefits:

This position is the perfect opportunity for someone who is looking to manage the books for a small company in a friendly yet professional atmosphere. You will be given proper training to understand how the company works, and initial training will overlap with our current Senior Bookkeeper to ensure a smooth handoff. The end of the fixed term will also overlap with the return our Senior Bookkeeper again to ensure a smooth final handoff. Your time will be spent performing accounting and bookkeeping duties while working closely with the President and Vice-President.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience with performing payrolls
- Excellent command of Quickbooks Online
- Proficient with spreadsheet software, word processing, etc
- A high level of computer literacy
- A home office with high speed internet (if working from home is desired)
- Self-motivated and disciplined to work productively from your home office (if desired)
- Excellent communication skills both on the phone and in writing
- Enviable organization skills and meticulousness
- Excellent time management
- At ease with data and figures
- A team player with a positive can-do attitude
- Consistently reliable with a tremendous work ethic
- Excellent research and problem solving skills
- High degree of discretion
- High comfort level with pursuing past-due collections
- Fluent in English and French
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA, or other relevant designation
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Develop a general understanding of our business processes
- Review employee worksheets and execute regular payrolls
- Support employees regarding any issues relating to payroll
- Prepare T4 / RL-1 slips
- Perform weekly cheque deposits
- Perform timely accounts receivable reminders and escalations, chasing down debtors
- Perform monthly bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online
- Perform monthly account reconciliations
- Prepare quarterly consumption tax returns
- Perform preliminary year end reports
- Ensure all expenses are reviewed, properly recorded and paid on time
- Manage any audits with tax agencies
- Manage employee benefits
- Maintain paper and electronic filing systems
- Produce reports for Senior Management when requested
